A világgazdaság jelenlegi, 50 éve legsúlyosabb recessziója sok illúziót megcáfolt. A cikk először a világgazdasági helyzet sajátosságait elemzi 2001 végén. Részletesebben foglalkozik az Egyesült Államokkal, mivel a világgazdaság várható folyamatait döntő mértékben határozza meg. A prognózisvariánsok között a katasztrófa, az elhúzódó recesszió és a gyorsabb élénkülés szcenáriója szerepel. Valószínű, hogy a remélt, viszonylag gyors kilábalás esetén, még 2003-ban is mérsékelt lesz az általános növekedés. Több jel szerint a következő években a nemzetközi kereskedelem kevésbé lesz húzóerő, mint a 90-es években, előtérbe kerül a belső piacok szerepe. Végül az egyes kontinensek, régiók perspektíváiról esik szó.

The crisis and perspectives of the world economy in early 2002
Synopsis: 

The current and for the past 50 years most serious crisis in the world economy has proved many illusions wrong. First, the article analyses the characteristics of the world economic situation at the end of 2001. It takes a more specific look at the United States, having a major influence in defining the probable trends in the world economy. Among the prognosis variants the scenario of catastrophe, a continuing recession and the possibility of a fast recovery equally appear. It is probable that even in case of the expected fast recovery the general growth rate will still stay low in 2003. Many signs predict that international trade will be less of a drawing force in the following years than it used to be in the nineties, the role of the domestic markets will come into the limelight. Finally the perspectives of certain regions and continents will be mentioned.
